Gazebo at Posey Park – 8″ x 10″ Watercolor and Ink

This wonderful little gazebo is the center of attention during many festivals and events in Eufaula, Oklahoma.   Tomorrow Clark Davis will be doing his DJ bit from the gazebo during the Eufaula Area Arts Council’s Art Walk and Car Show.  The car show will be at Posey Park.

This is the 7th Art Walk that the EAAC has hosted in Eufaula.  This year the Chamber of Commerce is also hosting a chili cook-off and there will be a golf cart parade at 1:00.  Mike Rogers from KFOX will be doing a live radio broadcast from 1:30 to 3:30.  They are even working on a 10 x 10 chalk drawing at Main and Foley, near the chili cookers, all day.

Our Favorite Place will be open from 9 am. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Portrait artist, Monica Brown will be present drawing portraits on the hour every hour. There are still 3 slots left.. If you like the portrait, you will be able to purchase it for $75. Kim Bultman will also be present playing the piano. They will have coffee, hot chocolate, spiced chai tea and homemade sweets from Made With Love Bakery all day!

Other artists who will be present include: Cheryl Smith, Molly Drog, Lynn Melton, Cindy Gooding, Donna Pearce, Beth Parker and Betty Knight.

Alexanader L. Posey was born in the Creek nation about eight miles from where the town of Eufaula, Oklahoma, now stands, August 3, 1873.

 

 Alex was to show marked genius in human understanding and an unusual comprehension of the beauty of the soul and the spirit. He was a child of happy disposition, carefree and playful. He grew into manhood with Tom, a full blood, whom his father had adopted. Alex tells in one of his stories about the Creek prophet and medicine man, Chologee. He and Tom had on one occasion placed a dead snake in the path where the old man would have to pass. They waited in hiding to see if he would be frightened.2 This story and other similar ones were evidences of the wit and humor which made him popular with his companions.  More…

About Sarah Bernhardt
Sarah Bernhardt, the French stage and silent film actress known as the Divine Sarah, was born in Paris in 1844 as Rosine Bernard, the illegitimate daughter of a Jewish courtesan. She began her acting career at age 13 and quickly rose to international stardom. Oscar Wilde wrote the play Salome for her. After her right leg was amputated in 1915, she continued to perform onstage with a prosthetic limb. She was very close to her only child, her son Maurice. She died in 1923.

Sunday in Eufaula is the peak date (according to monarchwatch.com)  for the monarch population here (Latitude 35),  as they migrate to Mexico.  Keep your eyes open, as the population will be smaller than usual, due to weather extremes over the last several years.

Art Walk Poster – 11″ x 14″  Watercolor

You may remember that I did the poster for this year’s Eufaula Art Walk & Car Show.  The only thing they asked for was to put a car in it.  I also put a sock monkey in the car and well…. that didn’t go over so well.  They asked me to photoshop it out, so I did.  That’s okay.  Not everybody likes sock monkeys.  (what?!  Really?!)  he he

The prints that will be available for sale at Art Walk will be the ones without the monkey.  They will be auctioning off the original (with monkey) at their silent auction.  I still haven’t seen the posters with the Art Walk advertising on them.   That is why they have so much blank space on them… for the words.

Be sure to stop by the Main Street Studio, 201 S. Main, in Eufaula this  Saturday, October 1st.  I will be there from 8 am – 11 am, and the auction will run all day.   They are also offering several workshops in the studio.  Around Eufaula, there will be a car show, a golf cart show, an Indian Exhibit, over 30 local artists, kid events and food everywhere.  The hub, so to speak, of the event is going to be at Bank of Eufaula, inside and out.   (They always have coffee and really good cookies there, too.)
I have around 25 small paintings at the Main Street Studio, too, so don’t be shy.  They are all available for sale. 

Remember, there is only one painting with the sock monkey in it, the original, available at the silent auction.

Art Walk & Car Show Poster – 11″ x 14″ Watercolor

I was selected to do the poster for Eufaula’s Art Walk this year.  I did this over the weekend.  They wanted a car in it, because of the car show, and the town is a simplified version of a section of Main Street.  I had a great time doing it.

I think they are going to insert the name and dates, etc, with a computer.  They haven’t seen this yet, so you have the first look.  It may change after they see it.

I did several little paintings on Sunday. It was a nice, relaxing day.

Eufaula's 4th Annual Art Walk is over. We started the event off with a free concert by Selby Minner & Blues on the Move. They were great!

Saturday was the best day! We had a street blocked off and filled it with artists, musicians, a storyteller, a poet, demonstrators, kids in costumes, a flute maker, two wineries doing wine tasting, a silent auction, beans & cornbread, sold in bowls the Quinton High School kids made, and an artist sharing his potter's wheel with anyone who wanted to get their hands dirty. I'm sure I left something out, but it was a wonderful day.

It was the first time I had a booth. I am always behind the scenes, but this year, I jumped right in the middle of the fun. I had such a good time. I sold two paintings, which is great, but I'd have had fun even without the sales. Of course, I lived on coffee, candy bars and cookies all day, so the caffeine and sugar may have been a factor. he he

Blaise Pascal was not only a mathematician and philosopher, he was also an inventor, having created the hydraulic press and the syringe. He was born in France in 1623. He showed a gift for math early: At age 12, he started rediscovering Euclid's theorems on his own. Later, spurred by a friend who liked gambling, he developed the theory of probabilities. After a life-threatening accident in 1654 he had a religious conversion, which led him to write about religious ethics and belief. He died in 1662.
