The Tipsy Barrels - July 9, 2009

"Your goals must be specific and measurable. Here's where most people lose it. It's one of the main reasons individuals never achieve what they're capable of. They never accurately define what they want. Vague generalizations and wishy-washy statements aren't good enough. If it is an important goal for you, take the time now to figure it out…be more specific."

The Rink - July 8, 2009

4′ x 8′ Sign for our local rollerskating rink.
.
I was so tickled at how this sign turned out. I designed it with the same joy that I paint with. The client was happy and I got to have all this fun!

Lazy Lemur - July 8, 2009

"The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live."

~Flora Whittemore

Sometimes it feels like we don't have choices but we actually are choosing something every moment of each day.
I don't always like having such a big responsibility and no one else to blame it on! But then I remember it's a gift.
Keeping in mind what you want gives you the chance to choose what supports your dreams and goals.

Purple Snow Leopard - July 6, 2009

Independence, like honour, is a rocky island without a beach.

--Napoleon Bonaparte

Who hasn't taken pride in doing something that no one thought could be done? It gives us satisfaction to do something difficult, to lift our head high and say, "I did this alone." We take pride in being the best we can be.

But we can't find happiness in the pride that sets us against our fellow humans, saying, "I don't need you," or even, "I'm better than you." We do need each other. And each of us has strengths, weaknesses, and God-given talents that God expects us to use to help each other.

Art Walk Poster - July 3, 2009

Brian Tracy in The Power of Discipline writes, "Your ability to discipline yourself to set clear goals, and then to work toward them everyday, will do more to guarantee your success than any other single factor."
.

Art Walk 2009 Poster
11" x 17" Watercolor and Acrylic
by Deloras Frederick, Glenna McBride & Beth Parker

We each had the poster for a while and added our touches. I did the swirly stuff and the name, dates, etc. Deloras did the iris, Glenna (a printmaker) painted the neat little symbols and stuff, then I finished it by filling it in with yellow. We'll use this for our Art Walk publicity poster in October.
.

Here's a crop of the swirly stuff with my little mini brush. Fun stuff, eh?
For all of you celebrating the 4th of July, have a safe and happy weekend!

Goldie Studies June 29, 2009

"Face your deficiencies and acknowledge them; but do not let them master you. Let them teach you patience, sweetness, insight."

– Helen Keller

I did three little ATC studies of my step-mother's dog, Goldie. I am studying her, to see if I have what it takes to do a portrait of her. She is such a character! I think a few more studies are in order before I do the portrait. My favorite here is the one on Yupo.
