Idaho A-Frame – 4″ x 6″ Watercolor

I painted this little cabin from a photo on the website for the actual cabin I have reserved for a solo painting retreat in the Teton Valley, Idaho in August.  It is a little south of Victor and not far from Driggs… one of my favorite places on earth.  I’ll spend a few days with my mom and brother in Blackfoot, Idaho, before scurrying off to paint in the Tetons for 4 days.    This is a view of the back of the cabin.  Yes, that is a hot tub.

Little Bit of Underpainting

I have been getting up before 5:00 am to go paint in the studio before work.  I’m slowly adding color.  These colors you see are still part of the underpainting, because there will be many layers of color and glazing.  Maybe it’ll give you an idea how these paintings develop.   It’s slow, but fun!

Chinese Geese Arts Council – Watercolor

“We are the Chinese Geese Arts Council.  The thing we like best about spring is our first plein air location scouting trip.  We just love gadding about in the woods together.  Do geese get poison ivy?”

This little ATC went to Kitty in the Netherlands.   I have only been plein air painting a few times.  I have to admit, I wasn’t very good about painting what I saw.  When I started painting what I wanted to paint,  influenced by what I saw, it went much better.    Does that make sense?

A Straight and Proper Window
2.5″ x 3.5″ on Strathmore Textured ATC

It’s amazing how a painting on one of these little textured ATCs takes on a whole different look than it would on a smooth paper.  I don’t like painting on canvas that hasn’t had the woven texture primed away, but I like this texture with watercolor.    I have purchased the little packages of different types of Strathmore artist paper in ATC size and they are always fun to experiment with.

For the FTC:  I do not receive anything from Strathmore Artist Papers.  I just like their paper.
