Thank You!

I painted this for my new friends, Val & Mary Easley.  They have been friends of my hubby’s for decades, but I just met them. 

We drove to Clinton, OK this weekend and spent time with this wonderful couple.   Mary is a die-hard crafter.  She has a sewing room that made me drool!  Then, outside is another whole building where she crafts all kinds of things.   I loved seeing all that, but more than anything, Val and Mary are two of the nicest people I have ever met.  Val is almost 82 and Mary is a young chickie of 72 and they have been married for 31 years.   They were awesome!

If you follow this blog, you may have noticed that I have been missing in action.  I’m still here, but I have had to exercise some self restraint, where the computer is concerned.  I’ve been so busy in my sign shop that it has had to come first.  It’s amazing how much I can get done when I don’t spend the first 2 hours of my day on blogging and social media.  Since 2007, I have blogged 5 days a week.  I’m just going to cut that back to maybe once a week.  I am going to try anyway.  I love doing this and I love being part of a larger art family, for sure.

I am still painting every morning between 5-6 am.  That will never stop.

Pablo Picasso, the Spanish painter at the forefront of Cubism, is perhaps best known for his painting Guernica, which depicts the hopelessness and violence of war. The masterpiece hung in the Museum of Modern Art in New York until democracy was restored in Spain; the painting was then sent home, where it hangs now at Reina Sofí a, Spain’s national museum of modern art. Born in Spain in 1881, Picasso spent his adult life in France. Although he’s known for his abstract paintings, his realistic work, particularly his Blue Period, was equally accomplished. He loved to be surrounded by friends and had multiple love affairs. He died in 1973.

Another Postcard Experiment

I’m having fun playing with the ideas for new Eufaula postcards.  As a tourist town, we really need more than what is currently out there.  I love being able to do this.  Since my sign shop offers business card and postcard services, I can get them at cost and share them freely.  Perk.

Today is my last work day before my vacation.  I am so excited to see my family and spend some alone time in the mountains.  I am going to really rest and really play.  I plan to even try a zip line!  Wheeeeeeee!  I’ll try to post some while I’m gone, but no promises.  I’m not going to put any pressure on myself for 10 days…. outside of getting to airports in time to catch flights.  I might need to pay attention long enough to get on airplanes.  he he he

I only take one vacation every other year, so I’m going to make it count.  Yes… self employment rocks, but it keeps me really hooked up and busy.  I’m looking forward to some of that un-busy stuff. 

Miriam M Hofmeier 1906 – 1987 was a member of the Hofmeier family. Miriam was born on May 25, 1906. Miriam died on October 22, 1987 at 81 years old.  Miriam M Hofmeier’s last known residence is at Berryville, Carroll County, AR.

Karen Casey, Ph.D., a Naples, FL resident since 1991, published Each Day a New Beginning, her first book, in 1982. This daily meditation book for women in recovery has sold more than 3 million copies. The 25-year Anniversary edition of Each Day a New Beginning was released in August, 2006. It was closely followed by The Promise of a New Day, in 1983, another daily meditation book for both men and women in search of serenity. It has sold more than 1.2 million copies. Following on the heels of these two books, Karen has written 25 additional books.  Let Go Now: Embracing Detachment was published a little more than 2 years ago. Peace A Day At a Time, was published in February of 2011.  Her memoir, My Story to Yours, which was published as an ebook and available on amazon, along with Hazelden, and  was available as a book too in October of 2011.   Her newest book in print is Getting Unstuck, a workbook that is a companion to Change Your Mind and Your Life will Follow.  It was published  fall of 2012.  Her newest one: The Good Stuff, a book detailing the positive aspects of growing up in dysfunctional families, (there are positives galore!), will be in print in October, 2013.  And the books will continue.  Keep checking this website.

Eufaula Postcard Possibility

Seriously… I’d love to know if this works.  I am playing with the idea of my art layered with actual photographs.  Tomorrow, I’ll show you another one.  I’m thinking the bright colored one here, with a sailing photo behind it.

I am officially a short timer.  I leave for my Idaho trip on Thursday.  I thought I might be goofing off a little this week, but my sign shop customers had a different idea.  It was crazy in here yesterday.  I’ll certainly be ready for a rest.

About Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, the American pop artist, is probably best known for his silk screens of Campbell Soup and Marilyn Monroe. He was born as Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh in 1928. His style borrowed from comic books and advertising; he wanted to remove the separation between commercial and fine art. His studio, the Factory, became a hub for the New York art scene. Having a little Fun with some designs for some new Eufaula postcards.   I didn’t paint this one with a black background, but I used Photoshop Elements to add the black.  If you look at the hi res version, you can see how much it needs to be cleaned up.  So this is not ready to go to the printer at all, but it is a start.

Blue House – 4″ x 6″ Postcard

I started this one while in Kansas City and I finished it this morning.  It was fun.
Boy, the sign shop sure is busy!  I don’t know whether to flip, flop or fly!  I’m going to stay offline for the most part, and try to get a handle on it.  Yesterday was spent entirely on getting new orders into the computer and getting some designs completed.  Whew!  It’s crazy!

Edgar Watson Howe (1853-1937), American author and editor, wrote realistic regional and romantic novels and coined widely circulated aphorisms.

Edgar Howe was born on May 3, 1853, in Wabash County, Ind. He acquired much of his education while learning and practicing the printer’s trade, and he eventually became a journalist.

Howe was editor and proprietor of the Atchison (Kans.) Daily Globe (1877-1911) when he wrote his first and most famous novel, The Story of a Country Town (1883). Harshly realistic, it portrayed, in a rather colorless but easygoing style, the hopeless lives of men and women in two midwestern prairie towns. Unable to place his novel with any publishing house, Howe ran it off in his own printshop. It was a great success. It was praised by such prominent contemporary writers as William Dean Howells and Mark Twain, and years later it was rediscovered and hailed as a classic. Versace Home in Pink

Again, I am posting an older painting.  Yes, I’m busy, busy, busy.  Yesterday was a day full of new orders at the sign shop.  I’m blessed and amazed at how much business is coming in these days.   I wish I was 35 again, with all that stamina and energy. 

The photo of the white building I painted this from was by my friend, Helen, at WetCanvas.   This home was on the market for $125 million!  I wonder if it sold?

Little French Postcard Beginning

Idaho A-Frame – 4″ x 6″ Watercolor

I painted this little cabin from a photo on the website for the actual cabin I have reserved for a solo painting retreat in the Teton Valley, Idaho in August.  It is a little south of Victor and not far from Driggs… one of my favorite places on earth.  I’ll spend a few days with my mom and brother in Blackfoot, Idaho, before scurrying off to paint in the Tetons for 4 days.    This is a view of the back of the cabin.  Yes, that is a hot tub.

My Postcard for KC Show

I made this postcard to do my own mailing prior to Kansas City show.  I have developed a list of potential customers from the KC area, plus my regular mailing list.  I’d love to have lots of sales while I’m there, so I’m being proactive.  I have done this for shows at The Main Street Studio here in Eufaula, and it brought people to the show.  The back has all of my info, so I can give them away at the show, too.   My QR code is on them, too, so they can scan it with a smart phone and go right to my website.

Pink Moose – 4″ x 6″ Watercolor & Ink Postcard

This little postcard was a doodle, more than anything.  I painted the moose from a photo by Stalksthedawn at WetCanvas, then just doodled.  This is another one from Idaho in 2011.  I’m working on some more new paintings, but they are slow, since I haven’t had much time to paint.  Should have a new one for you in a day or two.

This is another collage from an inexperienced collager.  The shoe is from a watercolor painting I did for a WetCanvas WDE (weekend drawing event), so Mary will probably recognize it.  This little card will be winging it’s way to Ohio.

This is another of my postcard collages.  My very first time doing something like this.  My friend, Cricket, is a big part of our local farmer’s market.  I imagine she has grown a tomato or two.  I really hope she likes it.

Oh My!  A 4″ x 6″ Collage Postcard (by a first timer)

I mod podged some fabric pieces onto a postcard, then cut out the boat from one of my old paintings and mod podged it and a bit of a doily on top of the fabric.  The little sun is a brass piece and the rest is dimensional acrylic craft paint.   Okay… I was playing and learning and having some fun.

This little postcard will be winging it’s way to Canada for Sharron Marshall.

Smoothie Anyone?  4″ x 6″ Watercolor

I painted this little postcard from a photo by Lisilk at WetCanvas.  She always has the best photos!  I figured you might be a little tired of buildings.

It’s a Pink Princess Castle – 4″ x 6″ Watercolor

Who wouldn’t want to live in a pink princess castle?  I guess a manly prince. 

I’m still working on a commission, so this one is from the archives.  I have always wanted to tour a castle.  I just love the idea of all the mysterious little nooks and crannies.   Oh and the round rooms with pointy ceilings.

Auntie Faye’s 4″ x 6″ Postcard – Without the Sock Monkey

The sock monkey is actually a little town marketing thing we got wrapped up in.  I don’t begrudge the folks at Auntie Faye’s for their decision to take it out for the postcard.  I’m just happy that I know how!   Yay Photoshop and Tara Reed’s tutorial that I purchased a couple years ago.  

I love today’s quote!  It came from Ruth Fishel’s little book Wrinkles Don’t Hurt – Daily Meditations on the Joy of Aging Mindfully.  I love that book!!

Fran Peavey has worked in many fields: college professor, taxi driver, junior high teacher, comedian.
