Aztec Cows… or if you please… A-MAZE-ing Cows

These are the cows patterned after the Aztec bookmark, but it looks more like a maze to me.  I haven’t tried to follow the path, so I don’t really know if you can get from point A to point B.

These are the same cows I painted in this post.  Happily, it sold as soon as it hit the internet.

About Henry Miller

 

The bohemian American novelist Henry Miller is best known for his sexually daring autobiographical novels, Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, and for his love affair with benefactor Anaïs Nin. He was born in 1891 in New York. His writing blossomed after he moved to Paris in 1930 but was banned in the United States for its erotic content. Miller eventually won the right to publish in the U.S., becoming an icon of the sexual revolution. He died in 1980 in California.

Unfortunately, during my computer fiasco, I lost many of my pictures that were saved on my primary hard drive.  Rather than whine… I decided to go back to some paintings I had saved on the secondary drive and look at them again, just for fun and inspiration.

The paintings I have selected to share on my blog are the Plant Parade paintings I did on WetCanvas’ Florals and Botanicals forum.  This is one I did in 2007.  The challenge was to paint in the style of Georgia O’Keefe.   The reference was a white flower, but I don’t remember what kind it is.   Any ideas? 

About Sir Laurence Olivier

The brilliant English actor Laurence Olivier, known for roles in such films as The Entertainer, Rebecca, and Wuthering Heights, was central in founding Britain’s National Theater, and was artistic director there for ten years. He was born in 1907 in Surrey. Not a Method actor, he used external attributes to create a character. He craved performance and was depressed between jobs. He was the first actor to direct his own Oscar-winning performance, in Hamlet. He died in 1989.

This one just makes me happy when I look at it.  There’s just something about sunflowers.
Did you know there was a National Sunflower Association?

Can you imagine how breathtaking it would be to happen upon this wonderful field of sunflowers?  Wow! 


Joubert, Joseph (1754-1824). Author of pensées, maxims, and some remarkable letters. He was early in contact with Diderot, and later a friend of Chateaubriand, Bonald, Fontanes, Chênedollé, and other major figures of the age. Suffering from poor health, he led a retired life, except for serving under Napoleon in the education ministry.

Much admired for the concise, accurate, at times witty quality of his writing, he refused to compose any work of length, preferring the private ‘carnet’, in which he combines a classical quest for concision with an introspective, analytical bent. He writes in the La Rochefoucauld tradition, but with a more tolerant, even Epicurean view of mankind; his critical judgements on writers are often remarkable for their acuity. A collection of his Pensées was published by Chateaubriand in 1838, followed by the fuller Pensées, maximes, essais et correspondance, published by P. de Raynal in 1842.
